Namib & Sossusvlei
The world's oldest desert — orange dunes, dead vleis, and sunrise running at the edge of the known world.
About Namib & Sossusvlei
The Namib is the oldest desert on Earth — 55 million years of wind-sculpted dunes, some of them over 300m tall. Sossusvlei and Deadvlei are the iconic stops: salt pans hemmed in by towering red dunes, with skeletal camel-thorn trees that have stood dead for 900 years because it's too dry for them to rot. Trek overlanders run at dawn from the Sesriem camp, chasing the light as the dunes shift from purple to orange to gold. Country #5 on the collector list, and likely the one you'll brag about the most.
