Everything you need to plan this trip
Fitness Level
The Casablanca Marathon is a flat, fast course at sea level. The tour segments (Atlas, Sahara) involve walking 3-6km per day on uneven terrain. General fitness is enough — you don't need to be a runner.
Prerequisites
- Comfortable running your chosen race distance
- Able to walk 5km on uneven ground (for tour segments)
- Moderate heat tolerance (Sahara in October = 30-35°C)
Visa & Entry
Kenyan passport holders need a visa for Morocco. Apply at the Morocco embassy in Nairobi before travel — Trek can assist with the paperwork as an add-on service.
What you need
- Valid Kenyan passport (6 months remaining)
- Return flight ticket
- Proof of accommodation (Trek provides)
- Two passport photos
- Completed visa application form
- Proof of sufficient funds
Morocco tourist visa is a sticker issued by the Morocco embassy in Nairobi. Trek can collect your passport and submit the application on your behalf for an admin fee — ask during booking. Allow 2–4 weeks processing. Visa fee approximately KES 8,000. Some nationalities (EU, UK, US, Canada, Commonwealth) are visa-free for 90 days — confirm your specific passport on the Morocco embassy site.
Frequently Asked Questions
Kenyan passport holders: 90 days visa-free on arrival. Most Commonwealth and Schengen passport holders: also visa-free. Check your specific passport on the official Morocco embassy site — requirements can change.
Morocco is a Muslim country but alcohol is sold in hotels, licensed restaurants, and many supermarkets. It's not prominent — drinking in public is uncommon. Ramadan (timing varies by year) changes service hours.
We stay in mountain lodges at ~2,000m. Hikes during this segment are moderate and optional. The desert segment involves camel rides and walks — manageable for most.
Modest but relaxed. Shoulders and knees covered when entering mosques (most aren't open to non-Muslims anyway). Everywhere else: just dress comfortably for warm days and cool mountain evenings.
