- Hill training in the 8 weeks before the trip
- Heat/altitude tolerance (Kigali is 1,500m)

Frequently Asked Questions
Kenyan and EAC passport holders: no visa for either. Other nationalities: Uganda is e-visa ($50, apply at visas.immigration.go.ug), Rwanda is visa-on-arrival ($50 USD cash). The Trek coach crosses both borders — we walk you through the process.
Kigali sits at ~1,500m. Nowhere near altitude sickness territory, but it can feel a bit thin for first-timers from sea level. The course is rolling (Kigali = 'land of a thousand hills'). Expect some quad burn.
Yes — emotionally. The Kigali Genocide Memorial is solemn and detailed. It's powerful and we recommend it for context, but it's optional. Children under 13 may find it too much.
Nairobi to Kampala: ~8 hours. Overnight stop. Kampala to Kigali: ~9 hours. Total: ~17 hours on the road split across 2 days. Comfortable reclining seats, rest stops every 2 hours.
